Nominees for this prestigious golden ball were announced on November 6th, 2019 where all-time favorites Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were also part of the list. Fans were not only delighted to welcome new entrants but also overwhelmed by the presence of their champs which were successful in taking place in top 10 on the basis of sheer performances.

Just one day and several hours before the announcement of 2019 winner of the men category, rumor mill was operational extensively well as the gossips of Cristiano Ronaldo not making into the top 5 were all aired based on a “leaked” result card, which of-course was not factual at all.

Amazingly, the battle between winner and the runner up in men category was amusing as the winner was selected only by 7 more points than the runner up. Let us remind ourselves something from the past, the last defenders to won Ballon d’Or were in 1996 and 2006, Matthias Sammer and Fabio Cannavaro in that order. (Yes it will help in moving forward).

Last year the king duo Ronaldo and Messi both remained unsuccessful as the Luca Modric former teammate of Cristiano won for the first time this award, this hand over was heavily criticized in whole footballing world and over social media fans had rejected the outcome let alone winner and were not ready to accept the results. As for many years previously, fans have accused the jury and results for being manipulative based upon favoritism.

This year the results appeared to be somewhat fare and relative to performances of the season 2018-2019. As the winner was tremendously successful in defending the league title.

The award distribution ceremony began with announcement of best goal keeper for the season. Liverpool’s ace goal keeper Alisson have swept the whole nominee list as there was great rift of points between the winner and the runner up, oh yes! Alisson was the winner as expectations were greatly high in this case so Alisson marked at 795 points and the Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen was legged far behind at 284 points. That’s a whopping 511 points lead. O man you did it a big thumbs up for the winner and best wishes as Alisson looks promising in current season.

The female Ballon d’Or award winner was skipper Megan Rapinoe who play for Reign FC (an American professional women’s soccer team based in Tacoma, Washington). Rapinoe have also won the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France famous for her cunning athletic style and direct action playing maneuvers in the field.

The wait is over; the GOAT, The King, The Fantastic Talented Athlete in the world unprecedented footballer of all-time Lionel Messi did it again he wins the Ballon d’Or 2019. The difference of points as mentioned earlier was so close between Messi and Virgil Van Dijk.

Messi; “10 years ago I received my first Ballon d’Or, steered by my 3 brothers, today, I receive my 6th, steered by my family. As my wife says, it’s important to never stop dreaming and to always work to improve myself and continue to enjoy myself. I hope to continue to play for some time. I know I am very fortunate, even if, one day, I will have to retire. That will be difficult but I still have beautiful years in front of me.”

Virgil Van Dijk came 2nd and Cristiano Ronaldo held 3rd place. Liverpool fans were hoping to see Van Dijk lifting the 2019 Ballon d’Or and their favorites like Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane in the top 5, their wishes got pleased unfortunately partially as the latter two were successful in appearing, Mane at 4th and Salah at 5th but Van Dijk not as the winner (well better luck next time).

Meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t show up at the ceremony this year.
