Another year another season for football lovers to be happy about, as tonight Champions League will kick off its 2019 / 2020 season. This will be the 65th season of Champions League football tournament. Total of 32 teams taking part in the head to head clash divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each group.
In every group, teams play two home-and-away matches. The top and second best team qualify for the round of 16, while the 3rd place teams enter the 2019 / 2020 UEFA Europa League round of 32.
The Match Days are 17 and 18 September, 1 and 2 October, 22 and 23 October, 5 and 6 November, 26 and 27 November, and 10 and 11 December 2019.
The final will be played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. The Champions of the 2019 / 2020 UEFA Champions League and 2019 / 2020 UEFA Europa League will then battle for 2020 UEFA Super Cup; they will also qualify for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar. They will also automatically qualify for the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League group stage.
May be a bad news for many teams and players who hate VAR ad the video assistant referee (VAR) system will be used in the competition from the play-off round onwards.
Currently English team Liverpool are the defending champions.
Another detail revealed by the UEFA that the ball, produced by adidas, will feature a reverse color block, which incorporates traditional colors from the UEFA Champions League.
